Guardians of Identity is a ten-day contemporary art exhibition taking place in Lagos, Nigeria, uniting fine art and photography in a bold exploration of identity, culture, and visual storytelling. Hosted by Zarnellia Art Gallery in collaboration with Spotlight Creative Hub, the exhibition presents striking portraits and visual narratives created by a new generation of artists who are redefining African representation in the global art world.
Taking place from December 6 to December 16, the exhibition transforms the gallery’s interior and exterior spaces into a multi-sensory environment that invites guests to experience art beyond the frame. Visitors will encounter powerful figurative paintings, stylized photography, and symbolic compositions that convey the heritage, self-expression, gender, and spiritual depth of contemporary African culture.
The event features an exclusive opening reception, complete with canapés, drinks, music, and an introduction to the artists. The closing night celebration brings collectors, art lovers, photographers, curators, and Lagos creatives together for conversation, acquisition opportunities, and cultural exchange. Works showcased throughout the show will be available for sale.
The exhibition goes beyond simply displaying artworks—it is a gathering of narratives, a celebration of Black beauty, and an artistic dialogue that reflects the city’s energy. Guardians of Identity creates a space where tradition meets modernity, and where new visual languages emerge from the imagination of the artists who shape our cultural future.
Visitors are invited to engage, reflect, and participate in a show that captures the evolving soul of Lagos.
