SUMMARY:Of Presence and Absence
DESCRIPTION:kó is pleased to present Of Presence and Absence\, an exhibition featuring new work by British-Nigerian artists Motunrayo Akinola and Aisha Seriki. \nAkinola and Seriki’s distinct practices both emerge from performative methodologies that question the politics of access\, visibility\, and belonging. Working largely within monochromatic palettes\, both artists consider how history and ritual intersect\, drawing on their experiences between Nigeria and the United Kingdom to reimagine concepts of representation and spirituality. While this exhibition places the two artists in conversation for the first time\, both develop symbolic visual languages through immersive installations and share overlapping conceptual concerns.

SUMMARY:Reimagining Heritage: A Guided Visit To The Old Secretariat
DESCRIPTION:Last July\, we gathered at the National Museum Lagos to explore the layered history of the Old Secretariat through the TALE exhibition. This February\, we return — this time stepping directly into the building itself. \n\nJoin the Creative Alliance for a guided visit to Reimagining Nigerian Alternative Heritage\, currently on view at the Old Secretariat. Co-curated by the National Commission on Monuments and Museums (NCMM) and Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique au Nigeria (IFRA-Nigeria)\, the exhibition expands conversations around national monuments\, memory\, and the evolving frameworks through which we interpret heritage today. \n\nThe visit will open with an introduction to the exhibition by Mrs. Nkechi Adedeji\, Curator at the National Museum Lagos\, followed by a welcome from the Creative Alliance and a historical contextualisation of the Old Secretariat by historian Kelechi Ujagbor. Guests will also experience a screening of the TALE of the Old Secretariat documentary and a live demo of Enter the Jungle: Hertiage as Play — an interactive game that transforms the building into a playable digital heritage site. \n\nBlending curatorial insight\, historical scholarship\, film\, and immersive storytelling\, this gathering invites us to encounter heritage as something living — rooted in the past\, activated in the present\, and open to imaginative futures. \n\nWe look forward to gathering in community once again — to reflect\, to learn\, and to reimagine what our monuments can become.
