Oba Rilwan Aremu Akiolu; the Oba of Lagos has officially announced that the Eyo Festival will hold on the 27th of December, 2025. This marks the first time in history that the festival will take place during the peak holiday season in December. The event is expected to significantly boost economic growth, attract investors, promote tourism in Lagos, and benefit the people.

The long awaited moment has finally arrived. After eight years and six months, the iconic Lagos Eyo Festival is a timeless symbol of culture, unity, and ancestral heritage, has officially been scheduled to hold on December 27th, 2025.

This announcement has stirred excitement among Lagosians both at home and in the diaspora. For many, the Eyo Masquerade display is not just a festival; it is a historic tradition that binds generations together and celebrates the soulful identity of Lagos Island.

The streets are already buzzing with anticipation and preparation as the timeless chant echoes once again.

The major importance of the Eyo cultural practices is to honor and remember our forefathers, while celebrating the heroes who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of Lagos. The Eyo Festival stands as a vibrant reminder of our heritage, our traditions, and the legacies that continue to shape Lagos as a center of culture and progress.

The 2027 Eyo Festival is specially dedicated to honoring prominent Lagosians whose lives and achievements have left an enduring mark on the state: Late Pa Michael Otedola; a former Governor of Lagos State, remembered for his commitment to public service and development. He is also the father of Lagos-born African business icon, Chief Femi Otedola, whose entrepreneurial achievements continue to inspire generations.

The Eyo cultural practices showcases history, story, grace, prestige and an unforgettable celebration of Lagos culture.
